Invisalign Treatment Planning

For this case, the teeth and bite were assessed and a digital orthodontic treatment plan was developed to determine the planned direction and sequence of tooth movement before Invisalign treatment began.

Treatment Details

iTero 3D Scan for Digital Treatment Planning

Before Invisalign treatment begins, an iTero 3D Scan can be used to digitally capture the shape and position of the teeth. This provides the dentist with detailed information for evaluating tooth alignment and planning treatment.

Digital scanning also provides data that can be incorporated into the Invisalign treatment-planning process and may reduce the need for conventional dental impressions in appropriate cases.


ClinCheck® Digital Tooth Movement Planning

Information obtained from the clinical examination and digital scan is used as part of the treatment-planning process with ClinCheck®, Invisalign’s digital treatment-planning software.

The dentist can evaluate the planned sequence and direction of tooth movement, as well as the bite and overall treatment objectives, before finalizing the Invisalign treatment plan for each patient.

Treatment is therefore not based on a single standard approach. Each plan must be developed according to the patient’s actual dental condition, bite, and individual treatment needs.

Invisalign Clear Aligner Treatment

Once the treatment plan has been established, the patient receives a series of Invisalign clear aligners to be worn in the sequence prescribed by the dentist. Each aligner is designed to gradually guide the teeth toward their planned positions.

The aligners are removable for eating and oral hygiene. However, wearing them consistently according to the dentist’s instructions is an important factor in keeping treatment progressing according to plan.

Throughout treatment, tooth movement is monitored periodically, and the treatment plan may be adjusted when clinically appropriate.

Results After Invisalign Treatment

The before-and-after comparison demonstrates changes in tooth position and alignment from the patient’s condition before treatment.

However, Invisalign treatment outcomes vary from person to person and depend on several factors, including the initial position of the teeth, bite characteristics, complexity of tooth movement, biological response to treatment, and compliance with aligner wear.

What Dental Problems Can Invisalign Treat?

Invisalign may be an option for treating several types of tooth-alignment concerns, including crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, rotated teeth, and certain types of bite problems.

However, whether Invisalign is suitable, which Invisalign program should be selected, the number of aligners required, and the expected treatment duration cannot be determined from photographs alone.

A clinical examination of the teeth, oral condition, and bite is required before an individualized treatment plan can be developed.
